The constitution of Bangladesh ensures equal opportunity for all genders. Even so, the widespread social rejection of hijra, transgender and intersex people remains high. As a result of ongoing stigma and persistent discrimination, hijra, transgender and intersex people struggle with chronic unemployment that saps their educational, emotional and physical wellbeing and limits their ability to engage productively with mainstream society. To combat these prejudices, the Jibangothon Unnyan Shongstha (JUS) and the Social Association for Development Alternative (SADA) jointly arranged a virtual photo exhibition entitled “MAINA” to raise awareness, enable a safe workplace and employment, raise the standard of living and promote social and economic integration of the hijra, transgender and intersex community in Bangladesh.

বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানে সকল লিঙ্গের মানুষের সমঅধিকার নিশ্চিত করা হলেও সমাজে হিজড়া, ট্রান্সজেন্ডার এবং আন্তঃলিঙ্গিক মানুষদের প্রতি সহিংসা, অবজ্ঞা এবং প্রবঞ্চনার হার অনেক বেশি। সামাজিক এসব অপবাদ এবং বৈষম্যের কারনে হিজড়া, ট্রান্সজেন্ডার এবং আন্তঃলিঙ্গিক মানুষদের দীর্ঘস্থায়ী বেকারত্বের মধ্যে দিয়ে যেতে হয় যা তাদের শিক্ষা, মানসিক এবং শারীরিক স্বাস্থ্য, এবং সামগ্রিক জীবনযাপনের উপর মারাত্মক ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব ফেলে। সমাজের এসব কুসংস্কার দূর করে সবার মাঝে হিজড়া, ট্রান্সজেন্ডার এবং আন্তঃলিঙ্গিক মানুষদের সম্পর্কে সঠিক ধারনা ও সচেতনতা তৈরির মাধ্যমে তাদের শিক্ষা, কর্মসংস্থান এবং জীবনযাপনের সুস্থ পরিবেশ গড়ে তোলার লক্ষে জীবনগঠন উন্নয়ন সংস্থা এবং সোশ্যাল অ্যাসোসিয়েশন ফর ডেভেলপমেন্ট অলটারন্যাটিভ যৌথভাবে “মাইনা” নামক একটি ভার্চুয়াল ছবি প্রদর্শনীর আয়োজন করেছে যা তাদের একটি নিরাপদ কর্মক্ষেত্র তৈরিতে সহায়ক হবে।
